Tired of your old pair of
jeans but still don’t have the heart to throw them away? Then don’t. Now is the time to put your quirky side into action. After all, when was the last time you saw a pair of jeans turn into a planter for your garden? These
planters not only look stylish and chic, but are functional too. Upcycling jeans as planters is one of the latest trends among gardeners across the world, as it’s not only unique but also costs nothing. You don’t have to stick only to your blue jeans, as colours like black, brown and green can make great alternatives too. CT tells you how to make your neighbours go green with envy with these unique
denim planters. Read on…
Things you need to start your garden
Take an old pair of jeans
Old cloth, rags, bubble wraps for stuffing
Strong needle and thick thread. You can also use a staple gun
Potting soil and pea gravel
You can put two PVC pipes to keep the legs straight (optional)
Plastic sheet
Method
Denim is porous and will obviously seep when you water the plants. So, cut the plastic sheet and staple it properly as a lining inside the pants. Now, carry your jeans planter where you want to place it. Fill pea gravel equally between the two legs. This will provide a strong base. Keep adding potting soil till you reach the top. Try to keep at least two or three planters together for a better view. Plant the flower saplings and enjoy your new jeans garden!
Back pocket hanging planters
Who said you can use only full-length jeans to turn them into planters? Cut off the back pockets and convert these into hanging planters. All you need is a pair of scissors. Hang these mini-planters anywhere you want — bathroom, balcony or even in the garden.
Denim succulent holders
Planters can be of different styles and textures. Stitch denim planters for succulents and cactus. Adorn them in various ways depending on your mood. This can be an interesting upgrade for your old pair of jeans.
Denim planters with guitars
Jeans planters can never go out of fashion as there are several ways to modify them. From crafting a simple denim planter to a more flamboyant variant, the choices are wide. Look at these cool planters, where the gardener has used three pairs of jeans to make planters. The seating corner looks musical with the placing of an old guitar, doesn’t it?
Pot Covers
These are very helpful when you are trying to protect your expensive
pots from getting damaged due to cold or heat. Pot covers are easy to make and add a nice appeal to the window sill of your kitchen or balcony. You can even cover the houseplant pots with these. Either stitch them according to the shape of the pot or just roll a full-length jeans around the pot. Simple! You can mix and match dark blue with lighter shades if you like.
Potato Grow Bags
Potatoes can grow in almost anything. Since denim is a breathable cotton material and we all have old jeans lying around, why not grow them in self-stitched denim grow bags?
Plant Hangers
Want to grow plants but don’t have a garden? Why not hang them instead? Turn your old pair of jeans into something useful like a triple-decker plant hanger to create a rustic and cowboyish atmosphere at your home. You can keep your small herb pots in it or even seasonal flowers would work just right.
