While the severe weather warning was cancelled early on Sunday, emergency services are now cleaning up after the "once every two to three years" weather event.

Western Power confirmed around 5000 homes were still without power just after 1pm, after gusts brought down a number of powerlines throughout the network.

In the Perth metropolitan area, people in Roleystone, Bedfordale and surrounding areas have been without power for up to 15 hours now.

Western Power customers in regional town Waroona are also still without power.

The utility service was initially unwilling to estimate a restoration time for many of the outages as crews work to fix the faults, and is providing regular updates.

"Crews are manually inspecting lines to ensure its safe to switch the power back on," a spokesperson wrote.

"Once the inspections are done, we'll have a better idea how long it will take to restore customers."

Just after 8am, emergency services also confirmed they had been called to seven properties to address overnight property damage.

It's understood the number could rise throughout the day, with the Bureau warning while the threat of severe winds should pass by 8am, windy conditions will carry on throughout the day.

The unexpected severe weather warning was first issued on Saturday morning, when the Bureau warned the forecast wind strengths were likely to be similar to a winter cold front - just without the bite.

The Bureau said the winds had gathered steam as a strong high pressure system developed in the WA's south and while he gusty easterly winds were common for this time of year, an easterly of last night's strength generally occurs only "once every two to three years".

The warning included much of the Perth metropolitan area, and extended south to Australind and north to Lancelin.
