Vigil against gangsters operating from jails

| | BHUBANESWAR | in Bhubaneswar

Twin City Commissioner of Police YB Khurania on Saturday said stringent action would be taken against the gangsters operating and controlling crime syndicates from jails.

“Stern action will be taken against the gangsters. Every possible effort will be in place to control crime networks,” Khurania told reporters.

The Police Commissioner’s statement came after it was revealed that mafia don Susant Dhalsamant was running his criminal network from the confines of the Jharpara jail.

While investigating into the firing on contractor Bijay Pal in the Cuttack Sadar police station area, police arrested antisocial Mrutyunjy alias Miku Nayak. During his interrogation, the police ascertained that though behind bars in one of the heavily-guarded jails, Susant was able to operate his network through his cronies.

Susant extorted money and even tried to bump off his rivals, policemen and even politicians for not bowing to his diktat. And he was allegedly helped by some unscrupulous jail officials. Many times during raids on jailsm, narcotics, tobacco items and even mobile phones have been seized, raising doubts on the jail security measures and integrity of jail officials.
