In the wake of the reports of the Kandhamal conjoined twins being shifted from the AIIMS New Delhi to the Cuttack SCB Medical College Hospital, their father Bhuyan Kahnar on Saturday said he wants that the boys’ treatment should continue in Delhi till they recover completely.
He sought the Odisha Government’s intervention in the issue.
“Jaga has recovered, but in Kalia’s case no significant development has taken place. Kalia is still getting fed with the help of tubes. He has some problems in the leg; his skull has not formed completely and skin grafting work is also not done,” Kahnar said.
If discharged, Kalia should be admitted to the AIIMS Bhubaneswar, he pleaded.
Sources said the parents of the twins are apprehensive that they might not get the infrastructure or expertise available at New Delhi AIIMS in the SCB Hospital. Besides, the doctors and nurses have become well-acquainted with the case and shifting them at this stage might cause some complications.
Meanwhile, Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena said, “We have requested the AIIMS New Delhi to continue the treatment of Jaga and Kalia till they recover completely.”
