Ahmedabad: Union minister of state for road transport and highways Mansukh Mandaviya will ride a bamboo bicycle to the returning officer’s office to file his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections.
Mandaviya had accompanied Union commerce and civil aviation minister Suresh Prabhu to NID’s Gandhinagar campus. While inspecting prototypes of products made by students and faculty of NID, Mandaviya took a liking for a bamboo bicycle. He immediately asked the director of NID if he could borrow the bicycle for a day to ride to the RO’s office. “I plan to promote bamboo products, especially the bicycle,” said Mandaviya. “Very few know that bamboo, if designed properly, is stronger than steel.”tnn
