The Vasco police have registered an offence against an unknown person for threatening one Munnalal Halwai, a Vasco-based businessman, with dire consequences.

As per complaint lodged by Halwai, he said that on March 9 around 11 pm, while he was travelling from Cortalim towards Vasco in his Toyota Qualis car, a white-coloured Bolero jeep, also moving in the same direction, dashed against his vehicle from behind. According to the complainant, the driver of the jeep was driving his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner.

The incident occurred when the complainant reached St Anthony’s Chapel at Chicalim.

According to the complainant, an unknown person wearing a face mask and holding a chopper in his hand alighted from the Bolero jeep, abused him verbally and threatened to kill him.

In this connection, Vasco police have registered an offence under Section 279, 504, 506(ii) read with 43 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police sub-inspector Vikas Deykar is further investigating into the case, under the supervision of police inspector Nolasco Raposo.

It may be noted that Halwai, who is a Vasco-based businessman, had accused

former Inspector General of Police (Goa) Sunil Garg of demanding and accepting bribe and had filed a complaint against him on August 11, 2016, before the Anti Corruption Branch (ACB). Later, Halwai had approached court seeking a direction to the ACB to register an FIR against Garg.

Sessions Court, Panaji, on January 8, 2018, directed the Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Directorate of Vigilance to register a First Information Report (FIR) against Garg in connection with the alleged bribery case.

Halwai had accused Garg of demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 5.5 lakh in order to register an FIR against a Ponda-based advocate. Halwai had said that the Ponda-based advocate, in connivance with a petrol pump dealer, also based in Ponda, had allegedly cheated him to the tune of Rs 1.15 crore. However, the allegations were denied by Garg claiming them as baseless.
