Mumbai: A housing society in
Mulund has built a huge doghouse for the strays in the neighbourhood. Animal lovers have provided not just bowls for food and water but even cushions for the furry ones.
A photograph of the doghouse went viral on social media and messaging applications two days back. When TOI traced the people behind the dog house, it came to light that animal lovers have to thank the residents of Cypress cooperative housing society in Mulund for the noble deed who had constructed this over a year ago.
“ It was our chairman’s idea to build a dog
shelter just outside the society gate. The shelter was built from waste. We have covered the rooftop with hay so that it stays cool especially during summer,” said Shailesh Nagda, a resident of the housing society.
Initiatives like this will create harmony in not just housing societies but also among strays and people, said Pawan Sharma, an animal welfare officer and founder of Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW). “It is usually an NGO or an animal lover who takes up such an initiative and so this comes as a pleasant surprise. The strays will not just become fond of the people caring for them but also protect them,” Sharma said.
