The 16th Bhutapuri Subrahmanya Sarma Memorial Award was presented to litterateur and poet Movva Vrushadhipathi of Guntur on the former’s 81st birth anniversary in Kadapa on Sunday.
Bhutapuri was a saintly poet who never expected returns, Vice-Chancellor of Yogi Vemana University Athipalli Ramachandra Reddy asserted in the award presentation function in C.P. Brown Memorial Library at Kadapa. Noted poet Narala Rama Reddy, who presided, said Bhutapuri authored Srimad Aandhrabhyudayam basing on Vijayanagar rule and Sri Krishna Bharatham.
The two works can be compared with works like Rana Prathapa Simha written by Rajasekhara Sathavadhani and Sivabharatham written by Gadiyaram Venkata Sesha Sastry, Mr. Rama Reddy said. Retired Telugu Head of Department of Sri Krishnadevaraya University Thummapudi Koteswara Rao recalled his three decade-long association with Bhutapuri.
Literateur Addanki Srinivas said both Bhutapuri and Vrushadhipathi were renowned poets and recited some poems from their works. Retired lecturer of Government Boys College D. Imam Saheb said Bhutapuri also authored works like Sri Bhadrachala Rama Suprabhatham and Sri Krishna Rakshanam in Sanskrit.
Literary critic Putha Pulla Reddy asserted Bhutapuri’s writing style would make one remember Thikkana and Pothana. The awardee Movva Vrushadhipati recalled that he participated in several literary meetings with Bhutapuri and recited his poetry. The guests and Bhutapuri Memorial Trust president Gopalakrishna Sastry and secretary Sivarama Surendra Sarma and Gopalakrishna Sastry presented the award and citation and felicitated Mr. Vrushadhipathi with a shawl and headgear.
