Congress president Rahul Gandhi's interactions at a discussion in Singapore have led to a controversy with a participant threatening the grand old party of legal action for posting a ‘doctored’ video of his on social media.
Professor PK Basu, the author of 'Asia Reborn', had asked Rahul, "Why is it that during the years that your family ruled India, India's per capita income was growing less than the world average? And yet, in the years since your family relinquished the Prime Ministership of India, India's per capita income has grown substantially faster than the world average," Basu is seen asking the question in the video.
The Congress tweeted a video saying, "With political discourse hitting new lows everyday, Congress president Rahul Gandhi shows how to gracefully handle detractors and call their bluff." The video, however, doesn't show Rahul's answer to Basu's question, cutting to another member of the audience who hails the Congress. Basu said that Rahul repeatedly failed to answer his question and accused the Congress of posting an edited and doctored video portraying as if the latter had convincingly given the answer.
"This is a classic fake news video. You are using my image to falsely advertise your politician, showing a sequence of events that did not occur. Withdraw this false video, or prepare for prosecution in Singapore's courts," he countered. He later retweeted another video posted by another user, saying, "Here's the full video of my succinct question to Rahul and his repeated failure to answer."
