The OnePlus 5 was released with OxygenOS 4.5 on top of Android 7.1 Nougat. In November, it received its first Open Beta build based on Android Oreo, and OnePlus rolled out the stable Android 8.0 Oreo-based OxygenOS 5.0 update in December.
Now, the company has released OxygenOS Open Beta 6 for the OnePlus 5. The notable change in the new Open Beta build is that it is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Android 8.1 brings few on-the-surface changes, so it’s not a major update over Android 8.0. However, it does have under-the-hood improvements such as the addition of the Neural Networks API.
Apart from Android 8.1 Oreo, the new Open Beta build brings other improvements as well. OnePlus has implemented a new auto pick up gesture in the Phone app: users can now answer incoming calls by raising the phone. There are more clock styles for Ambient Display, and the security patch has been updated to the February security patch. Also, there are new optimizations in gaming mode, that include power saving and pausing adaptive brightness. OnePlus Switch now has support to migrate application data, which is a useful feature that will make it much easier to switch between devices. Finally, there are the usual bug fixes and improvements.
