Tamil Nadu has netted ₹14,305.08 crore of the State Goods and Services Tax (GST) so far, much more than what was projected.
Based on this buoyancy, State Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar presented a list of demands at the 26th meeting of the GST Council in New Delhi on Saturday.
According to a statement, the Centre has to settle ₹6,346.94 crore to the State on Inter-State GST and out of it an advance of ₹1,304 crore has been received. Tamil Nadu has received GST compensation of ₹632 crore till February 2018.
At the GST Council meeting, Mr. Jayakumar sought settlement of the remaining amount by March 31, 2018. He sought exemption for traders who failed to get GST registration during the transition from the VAT regime. The Minister pushed for exemption or lower GST rates on branded and unbranded food and bakery items, pickles, pump sets, agriculture equipment, outsourced services of educational insitutions, and sanitary napkins and requested early decision on these items.
