Chinese Embassy in India was actively pursuing with the Ministry of External Affairs for signing a Memorandum of Understanding between Puducherry and Dali city in China, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said here on Friday.
Talking to reporters after meeting the Chinese Ambassador to India, Luo Zhaohui, at his chamber in the Assembly, he said the Embassy had taken up with the Ministry, the signing of an agreement between Puducherry and Dali city to promote tourism, cultural exchanges and industrial development.
Dali is a city in China’s southwestern Yunnan province and a major tourist destination.
Extending invitation
The Ambassador had extended an invitation to the Chief Minister to visit Shanghai and Beijing for exploring options in industrial collaboration.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Chief Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan, who had visited Dali as part of a cultural exchange programme, told The Hindu that the team had submitted a proposal to the Puducherry government after their visit.
A pact with the city would help Puducherry promote tourism, he said.
Meets Kiran Bedi
The Ambassador also called on Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi at Raj Nivas.
He was accompanied by his wife Jiangyili in both the meetings.
