Issue of water main focus of Nalgonda ZP meeting

Chairman of the Nalgonda Zilla Parishad Nenavath Balu Naik urged the collectors of the three districts — Nalgonda, Suryapet and Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri — to come up with an effective plan to address the problem of drinking water in view of the dry season just around the corner.

The problem already high now, as many villages and mandals are facing a rising demand for drinking, he pointed out, in response to the issue raised by the MPTCs and ZPTCs at the Zilla Parishad general body meeting here on Saturday. He said the problem was alarming with receding groundwater table adding to the worry.

Earlier, representatives from Narketpally, Kethepally, Peddavoora, Thipparthy, Anumula, Vemulapalli, Damaracherla and Munugode mandals complained against the slow action by concerned department officials.

Mission Bhagiratha

Officials of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation department reported that 90% pipeline work under Mission Bhagiratha, the comprehensive plan to provide drinking water to each house, was completed in these mandals and added that prioritising of habitation cover was being worked out.

Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham and Thungathurthy MLA Gadari Kishore also advised officials to tap local resources such as the corporations, to provide water supply till the scheme became fully operational.

Members also expressed fears that the 24-hour power supply to farming was resulting in falling water table, and they suggested that measures be be initiated for a shift-based use of the resource.

The ZP Chairman referring to the irregularities pointed out by the members, said that loans from corporations were not reaching the intended beneficiaries. The ZP Chairman sought action of officials.

The ZP general body after drawing the subject resolutions, launched a brochure to highlight the protection of drip systems during summers, an initiative of the Horticulture Department.
