In a shocking incident in Ballia, a middle-aged Dalit woman was critically injured after miscreants tried to torch her while she was in deep sleep late on Thursday night. The incident took place as the woman raised her voice against excess interest on the money which she borrowed from the accused.
After being rushed to a hospital, the victim revealed the names of the perpetrators after which a case was registered and the police have arrested two of the accused.
As per reports, Reshma Devi (45) of Jalauli village in Bheempura locality borrowed Rs 20,000 from her relatives Siddhu Singh and Sonu Singh living in the same locality. Reshma said that she returned the money along with the interest but the duo was demanding more interest which she refused to pay up.
Late on Thursday night, while Reshma was sleeping in her house, some people gained access into the house, doused her with kerosene and later set her afire. Despite suffering serious burns, Reshma raised an alarm after which neighbours rushed her toa hospital and informed the local police.
On the basis of her statement made before a magistrate, an FIR was lodged against Sonu, Siddhu Singh and Guddu Singh. The cops subsequently arrested Siddhu and Sonu and they were sent to jail. While a hunt was on for the third accused, the arrested duo was being interrogated.
