Asst Sub-Inspector shots himself dead inside PCR van

A 54-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector, posted in a Police Control Room (PCR) unit, shot himself in the head inside a PCR van in North Delhi’s Civil Lines area on Friday. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Harender Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) said the the ASI identified as Hanuman Sahay.

The official said that the PCR van, with which he was attached, was out of order and it was taken by staff to Old Police Lines for repair. It was there that the policeman shot himself in the head. Police suspect that Sahay was alleged to be under depression. Police further said that they have not recovered any suicide note from the spot.Further investigation is on, added police.

In another case, wife of a Head Constable committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in the presence of her two and a half year old daughter in West Delhi’s Hari Nagar area on Thursday evening. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Deepshikha.

According to a senior police officer, the incident was reported on Thursday evening when Ravi, posted with the PCR unit, returned home and found the door locked. When he rang the bell, his wife did not answer. He then raised an alarm and informed his neighbours who then barged open the door and found Deepshika hanging from the iron grill of a window using a rope.

Police said that beneath the body of Deepshikha, her two and half year old daughter was found crying.

The officer said that Ravi had married Deepshikha in 2011 and had been living with her and their daughter in  a rented accommodation in the Hari Nagar area.

The case has been transferred to the District Magistrate. The senior police officer said that no suicide note has been recovered from the possession of the deceased and that they are waiting for the family members of the woman to come. Accordingly based on their statement, further action will be taken.
