The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party at the Centre and in the municipalities for misguiding traders and the people of the city on the issue of the ongoing sealing drives.
AAP leader and spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj said only an ordinance can save Delhi’s traders from sealing. He added that instead of bringing about an ordinance in Parliament, BJP leaders are trying to gain political mileage from the miseries of traders.
“Every leader in the BJP has been claiming that they will stop sealing since it first started in December last week. Why has it not happened yet?... Ask any lawyer...only an ordinance can bring stop the sealing drive and the BJP is doing nothing but taking people for a ride,” he said.
In a related development, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday threatened to go on hunger strike if the sealing drive issue is not resolved by the end of this month. He said he will meet Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Puri over the issue and also write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.
During a meeting with traders in Amar Colony, against whom the police had allegedly used force on Thursday, he said, “If there is no solution to the sealing drive by March 31, I will sit on hunger strike. We will put pressure on the Centre together.
