Union minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nitin Gadkari today hit back at Congress leader Sonia Gandhi's assertion that the BJP would lose in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

How can the Congress talk about the 2019 polls when the party is losing "state after state" in elections, Gadkari said today while talking to TV Today consulting editor Rajdeep Sardesai.

Gadkari was speaking at the India Today Conclave 2018 in Mumbai, the same event where Sonia Gandhi yesterday launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi government.

The BJP's 'Acche Din' slong will turn into the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-era's 'India Shining' slogan, Sonia Gandhi thundered at the conclave yesterday. Sonia was referring to the BJP's campaign slogan for the 2004 Lok Sabha election. The Congress won that election.

"I am confident that the BJP's acche din will actually turn into the Shining India (sic), which is what brought us victory," Sonia said yesterday while talking to India Today Group's chairman and editor-in-chief Aroon Purie.

"We will not let the BJP come back to power," Sonia also said.

Today, Gadkari brushed off Sonia's comments, saying that the Congress is 'day-dreaming' about winning the 2019 election.

"We won in Northeast, we will perform well in Kerala and Bengal," Gadkari said, referring to the BJP's historic election win in Tripura. The BJP also went on to become part of governments in Meghalaya and Nagaland.

The Congress is losing elections in sate after the state, Gadkari said, asserting that the BJP will win the 2019 Lok Sabha election under PM Narendra Modi's leadership.
