The United Democratic Front (UDF) has decided to organise a protest in front of the Secretariat on March 14 to demand the implementation of the Light Metro project in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode cities.
Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala will inaugurate the protest, in which many top leaders of the Congress including former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Shashi Tharoor MP, MLAs K.Muralidharan, V.S. Sivakumar, M. Vincent and K.S. Sabarinathan will participate.
In a statement, Mr. Sivakumar said the Light Metro work should be entrusted with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). He said the same people who had agitated demanding DMRC Principal Adviser E. Sreedharan to be handed over the responsibility of executing the Kochi metro project, during UDF rule, were now trying to keep him out.
Mr. Chennithala also urged Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to elicit the services of DMRC and Mr. Sreedharan for the project. In an open letter to Mr. Vijayan, Mr. Chennithala said people heard the news of Mr. Sreedharan opting out with concern.
Matter of concern
Mr. Sreedharan had said he was opting out due to the lack of interest from the State government. This was a matter of concern for the people. Hence, he should take the lead to bring back Mr. Sreedharan and the DMRC for implementing the project, Mr. Chennithala said.
