Waqf Board to raise rent of 400 shops

The Telangana State Waqf Board (TSWB) on Saturday decided to enhance rents of over 400 shops endowed to the Makka Madina Alladin Waqf in Old City.

Addressing the media after a board meeting, TSWB chairman Mohammed Saleem said rents of the waqf institution have been low for long. “Keeping in with similar efforts of rent enhancement at the Nabikhana Maulvi Mohammed Akbar, we are going to increase rent at the Makka Madina Alladin Waqf. We will verify rentals at each shop,” he said.

He highlighted the staff crunch at the Board since several years and said that chief executive officer M. A. Mannan Farooqui will write to the government on the issue. “We will remind the government that we need 50 persons. Other issues pertaining,” he said. The board also discussed constitution of eight management committees, five appointments of mutawallis and passed a resolution to write to the government seeking extension of the CEO’s term by a year.
