Belagavi: The city will witness the historical event of hoisting the country’s
tallest tri-colour on Monday, beating the one at the
Indo-Pak border at Attari in Punjab. The flagpole erected at
Fort Lake is 361-ft tall, 1ft more than the one in Attari.
District in-charge minister
Ramesh Jarkiholi will inaugurate the flagpole by hoisting the 9,600sqft national flag at 9.30am.
The inauguration was delayed as the authorities were waiting for suitable date from chief minister Siddaramaiah. However, since
Siddaramaiah is busy, the programme will be held in the presence of local leaders.
It was also speculated that AICC president
Rahul Gandhi would launch the project during his Mumbai-Karnatak tour.
It is a dream project of Belagavi (North) MLA
Feroz Sait. “This is a proud moment for me that my dream of hoisting the tallest flag of the country in Belagavi is coming true. This is an effort to create patriotic feeling among today’s young generation and make Belagavi city a tourist attraction,” Sait said.
