Makkal Needhi Maiam leader in Erode

As part of his state-wide political tour titled "Naalai Namadhe", actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam founder, Kamal Haasan addressed a huge gathering in Perundarai in Erode district, Tamil Nadu on Saturday.

Through the tour, he wanted to familiarise himself with people’s concerns, the actor told recently. “This is a journey of discovery and learning and an opportunity for me to truly understand my people,”  Mr. Haasan said.

Coast Guard chopper crashlands in Maharashtra

An Indian Coast Guard helicopter on a routine patrol crash landed in Raigad district of Maharashtra on Saturdays afternoon, injuring a woman pilot, the Navy said.

All the four crew members of the Coast Guard in the chopper were rescued from the scene of the accident by the Navy and flown to naval hospital 'Asvini' at Mumbai, a Navy officer said.

Cummins strikes for Australia

South Africa lost just the one wicket before lunch on the second day of the second Test at Port Elizabeth, ending the session at 110 for 2 in response to Australia's 243. Pat Cummins got the wicket of nightwatchman Kagiso Rabada. Dean Elgar and Hashim Amla were at the crease.

The formation of Cauvery Management Board is being discussed by most parties in Tamil Nadu.

The Tamil Nadu government on Friday impressed upon the Centre that the Supreme Court’s judgment did not interfere with recommendations of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, in its final order, with regard to the implementation mechanism.

Bairstow century seals series

In the deciding one-dayer in Christchurch, England took the series 3-2 against New Zealand, thanks to Jonny Bairstow's attacking century. Chasing 224, Bairstow smashed 104 off just 60 balls as England won by seven wickets.

Pokkali, a traditional coastal variety of rice, is cultivated only a few months every year. The fields, which are left fallow for the rest of year, double as fish or shrimp farms.

Chennai girl killing

In yet another horrifying case of stalking, a girl was murdered near her college in K.K. Nagar in Chennai on Friday by a man who was known to her for some years. Alagesan stabbed Aswini with a long knife, causing a grievous injury on her neck. Two college students rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead.

French PM visits India
