In order to make health services accessible to the working class, the State government has proposed to open health kiosks at nine places in the city.
Talking to reporters after demonstration of these kiosks here on Saturday, Food and Civil Supplies Minister U.T. Khader said they will come up in Jeppinamogaru, Saripalla, Kudroli, Meenakaliya and Krishnapura in Mangaluru City Corporation limits. These kiosks will also be set up near Thokkottu bus stand, Olapete, Kotepura and Chembugudde in Ullal City Municipal Council limits.
Mr. Khader said these kiosks made of pre-fabricated aluminium sheets are being set up using funds available under the National Urban Health Mission. The kiosks will be in addition to 10 Urban Health Centres that are already working. The kiosks will be located in areas that are far away from the UHCs.
A nurse and a laboratory technician will be available for a couple of hours in the morning and evening at the kiosk to provide services such as checking blood pressure, immunisation, malaria testing and urine examination for construction labourers and other working personnel. A doctor would visit the kiosk every fortnight. Mr. Khader said each of the kiosk will cost ₹4.5 lakh. He said these kioks would be operational in a week’s time.
