Awareness drive to cut water wastage

Pimpri Chinchwad: The civic body plans to conduct a public awareness campaign to check water wastage.

Shravan Hardikar, municipal commissioner, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), said, “Fifty per cent of water leakages and losses occur in homes as people do not turn off water taps when not needed and wash their vehicles using pipes. There are also other reasons like tap leakage. As a result, there is a need to reduce such water wastage so that it can be diverted to areas which receive inadequate supply.”

He added, “There are devices to be attached to taps to reduce flow of water so that less water is used and wasted while brushing teeth, washing utensils and other daily chores. There are also part flushes available for toilets in the market which flush out only quarter or half of water from tank, thus reducing water wastage. So people must use such devices for water conservation and also to reduce their annual water tax.”
