It was okay in school, but why do we need to wear uniform in college?” asks a student of University
Maharani College. With the Rajasthan College Education Directorate issuing guidelines that a dress code has to be followed in government-run colleges, many students have been left disappointed. According to the circular, male students will have to wear shirt, trousers, shoes, socks, belt and sweater (winters),while the attire for their female counterparts will be salwar suit, dupatta, sari, shoes/sandals, socks and sweater or cardigan (winters).Respective colleges will decide on the uniform colour.
Earlier, the state’s Higher Education Minister
Kiran Maheshwari has said that the decision to come up with uniforms has been taken following students’ demand. But when Jaipur Times spoke to students across colleges, it seemed like many students are far from happy. While most feel that it’s essential to have uniform in schools, college is a different ball game altogether. In college, they say, students are young adults and they should have the liberty to choose what they wear.
‘HAVING UNIFORM IS NOT A BAD DECISION’
While a large number of students are unhappy with this decision, there are, however, some students who feel that having a dress code is after all a good decision.
