Tight security for meeting

Press Trust of India  |  Hyderabad

Tight security arrangements have been made to ensure law and order in view of a meeting called today to commemorate the 'million march' protest held in 2011 in support of a separate state, police said. The meeting, proposed to be organised at Tank Bund on the banks of the Hussain Sagar lake, has been called by the Joint Action Committee (TJAC). The TJAC comprises different people's organisations. The 'million march' held on March 10 in 2011 was violent with several statues on the Tank Bund being vandalised and some political leaders and others coming under attack. Police have denied permission to the event and has deployed security personnel in large numbers since last night at the Tank Bund, Osmania University, which was the hotbed of the movement, and other places in the city. TJAC Convener M Kodandaram flayed the TRS government for not allowing the meeting to be conducted peacefully. Scores of TJAC activists were taken into preventive custody, he claimed.
