The Pink Task Force, which was constituted by the Kudumbasree Mission last year with a mission to address gender issues and atrocities against women, has started full-fledged operations in the district.
With the support of 164 women trained in martial arts, counselling services, and legal guidance, the task force has so far attended to around 50 complaints, of which a majority pertained to mental torture of women.
According to project coordinators, the confidentiality maintained in dealing with complaints is the biggest attraction of the initiative.
The task force members, whose services are now available in all the 82 community development societies, take up individual grievances and connect complainants with the authorities concerned. In effect, no accused will go scot free in genuine cases where women fall victims and struggle to get justice, they say.
District Kudumbasree Mission coordinator P.C. Kavitha says that the task force members have been professionally trained to handle all critical situations, especially when ordinary woman struggle to get justice. They work closely with the police and other law enforcement agencies to extend quick support to the needy, she adds.

In the days to come, the Snehitha gender help desk planned by the Kudumbasree Mission in the district too will be brought under the Pink Task Force. With the launch of the facility, women and children in distress will be able to seek the support of the team through a single helpline and quickly access the services of responsible institutional agencies.
Apart from fighting gender-based issues and atrocities, the team members are now planning to offer support through volunteers for the successful conduct of awareness campaigns and events by the government. The coordinators say that the team members have already proved their mettle by supporting the recently held State Buds School Festival.
