Scooterist killed

A man was killed and another grievously injured when the scooter they were travelling on was knocked down by a speeding car at Pattom on Friday.

The city traffic police identified the deceased as Thankamani, 50, of Arayoor in Chenkal. His friend, Justin Raj, 35, who was riding pillion was seriously injured in the accident that occurred at 8 a.m. in front of Kendriya Vidyalaya. They were headed towards Kesavadasapuram from Pattom.

They were rushed to the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital, but Thankamani’s life could not be saved.

According to the police, the car was speeding in the opposite direction on the other side of the median. The driver, identified as Suresh Kumar of Plamoodu, apparently lost control of the vehicle, which went over the median before knocking down the scooter.
