Dennis Rodman Asks Trump to Send North Korea's Kim Jong Un His Regards During Historic Meeting

Eccentric retired NBA star Dennis Rodman asked President Donald Trump to send North Korean leader Kim Jong Un his regards during an expected historic meeting between the two. 

Rodman himself has taken a few trips to the hermetic nation, meeting with the dictatorial Kim and employing what he calls "basketball diplomacy." Rodman lauded Trump's planned sitdown with Kim amid tensions between the nations over North Korea's nuclear program and increasingly bombastic rhetoric between the two leaders.

"Well done President Trump," Rodman told The Washington Post in a statement through his agent. "You're on the way to a historical meeting no U.S. president has ever done. I'm looking forward to bringing more basketball diplomacy to North Korea in the upcoming months. Please send my regards to Marshall Kim Jong Un and his family."

The 56-year-old was famously a member of the Detroit Pistons and the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls. He has since, somehow, made inroads into Kim's regime while saying he doesn't represent the U.S.' interests.

"Well, that's not my purpose right now," Rodman said in June ahead of another trip to the nation, according to CNN. "My purpose is to go over there and try to see if I can keep bringing sports to North Korea."

South Korean national security chief Chung Eui-yong announced at the White House Thursday that Kim might be willing to give up his nuclear program in exchange for guaranteed safety and that the two leaders were planning to meet.

"I told President Trump that in our meeting, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un...said he is committed to denuclearization. Kim pledged that North Korea would refrain from any form of nuclear or missile tests," Chung said. "He expressed his eagerness to meet with President Trump as soon as possible."
