NOIDA: The
Noida Residents Welfare Associations (RWA) has sent out a circular to resident welfare bodies of all the sector seeking a complete ban on polythene bags in their respective areas. Those failing to comply will be penalised as per the
NGT guidelines.
"Further to our circular dated Feb 24 on ensuring plythene ban in residential sectors and across the city, it is noted that many RWAs are yet to make sincere efforts in this regard. Hence, we requested all RWAs to make earnest steps in strengthening a polythene-free Noida drive," said
NP Singh, president,
Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (
FONRWA).
The RWA federation urged local RWAs to holding regular meetings with residents to educate them regarding harmful and ill-effects of polythene, distribute pamphlets in sectors drawing the attention of the public about the adverse effects of the use of polythene, hold awareness marches in the sectors, put up notices and hoardings and urge all shopkeepers in residential sectors to desist from using polythene bags.
"We are determined to make this drive a success and will ensure penal action as per environment norms on anyone found flouting the rules," said Singh.
