The women’s wing of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) observed the International Women’s Day under the leadership of wing president Pranati Mishra at its State office here on Thursday.
INTUC, Odisha branch president and former MP Rama Chandra Khuntia inaugurated the programme. The United Steel Workers’ Union, Canada’s leader George Garacia, who was chief guest, said, “Awakened women are really empowered and there is no time limit for women’s fight to get right. Obtaining achievement is the time-edge. Women of my country are still taking to the streets to get their rights.”
International Construction and Forest Workers’ Federation of South Asia Education Director Prerana Prasad expressed deep concern over women violence at workplaces and other locations. She said adoption of laws is not the only way to resolve the problem and, hence, women should think deeply and find out
alternatives to get rid of the problem.
Congress Unorganised Workers’ Cell national secretary Dadasaheb Dogre graced as guest of honour. He said women working in unorganised sector are exploited the most and the Congress is working to resolve this problem.
Among others, INTUC secretry Kishore Jena, vice-president Madan Dhal, Bidyadhar Mohanty, Shili Sethi, Basanti Samal, Kamini Moharana, Bhagyashree Pradhan, Menaka Jena, Electricity Workers’ Federatoin general secretary Akshay Tripathy, Bhuban Sahu and Ghana Kumar Sabar were present.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Elis Minz. As many as 380 women workers from different parts of the State joined the celebration.
