Road works, snarls force SSC candidates to leave home early

Thane: The ongoing civic works and hawkers blocking several major city roads has been causing traffic snarls, putting students appearing for SSC exams in trouble.

With the board instructing exam centers to not allow students after the exam starts, parents and students are left with no other option but to leave homes much in advance. Students from areas like Vasant Vihar, Kalwa, Pokhran, Mumbra and Naupada have been particularly inconvenienced.

A student from Balkum said she takes nearly 30 minutes to reach the exam centre in Manpada, which is otherwise a 10-minute drive. “I am forced to take the internal roads as the condition of the roads in our locality is bad ,” said Ritika Nair.

Another student, Savari Gandhi, said she has to leave home an hour earlier, thanks to the Kalwa bridge work. A parent from Uthalsar said the flyover work has been causing massive inconvenience to his son whose exam centre is in another part of the city.

Meanwhile, in Mumbra, hawking on streets have been causing traffic snarls. “I have complained to the administration. Are they waiting for a major tragedy,” asked MLA Jitendra Awhad.
