To deploy 75 sedans which will be automatic AC e-cars with zero tailpipe line emission

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Thursday became the first civic agency to deploy electric vehicles in its official fleet.

A statement released by the body said that replacement of internal combustion engines (ICE) vehicles with electric vehicles will result in saving of 1.65 lakh litres of fuel per year, reduction in emission of 2,100 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, and substantial reduction in pollution, maintenance and operating cost of vehicles.

Driving cost

“The SDMC will deploy 75 sedans, which will be automatic air-conditioned e-cars with zero tailpipe line emission, and 47 charging stations functional at several locations under the civic body’s jurisdiction. Driving cost of these cars will be ₹0.89 per km,” the SDMC said.

“Twenty more charging stations will become operational in near future... The power of the e-car is 30 kW and the maximum speed is 110 km/hour. The e-car can run 140 km on full charge and takes just 90 minutes to charge with a DC [direct current] charger,” SDMC Commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel said.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power and New and Renewable Energy R. K. Singh had during the launch of the National E-Mobility Programme on Wednesday handed over the keys of the first e-vehicle to Mr. Goel. “After the launch of the programme, the SDMC received its first fleet of 32 e-vehicles. The remaining 43 will be delivered soon,” the civic body added.
