A newborn baby boy is in critical condition after he was found in a dustbin outside a house in Roshnee‚ Vereeniging.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said ER24 paramedics had beencalled to the house shortly before noon on Thursday, after the homeowner heard noises coming from the bin area.

Upon arrival, paramedics found the baby in a bin, took him inside for assessment, and discovered that he was in a critical condition.

The infant had a very low body temperature.

"Paramedics began their treatment and advanced life support interventions, while warming the boy," said Meiring.

Once the paramedics had treated the baby, the infant was transported to a nearby provincial hospital for further treatment.

Meiring said local authorities had been informed of the incident.
