Thane: The Thane municipal administration has finalised a list of Right To Information (
RTI)
activists who they suspect have been seeking information with malafide intentions and have alerted the Thane police recommending action.
It is learnt that the list, drawn up by a six member team deputed by municipal commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal recently, includes names of political activists, former corporators, citizen activists among others.
The panel that was studying the pattern of RTI applications filed by most of these noticed that some had filed over 60 queries with a particular department.
The action follows after it was found that some activists have been regularly seeking information and reportedly misusing it to file frivolous cases in courts against certain developers or officials. Most of these cases would be withdrawn after a certain period of time.
Deputy municipal commissioner Sandeep Malvi confirmed to TOI that they had compiled the list of Right To Information applicants who were found to be misusng the data.
MLA Pratap Sarnaik had also tried to draw attention of the Assembly over the issue recently and had named a few people who could be potentially misusing the information seeked through the RTI.
