A 32-year-old woman jumped off the Aroor-Kumbalam bridge on Thursday evening after getting off the two-wheeler driven by her husband and handing over their six-month-old toddler to him.
The woman was identified as Vinisha, a native of Vayalar in Alappuzha. The incident happened at 5 p.m. when the couple along with their toddler was going to Vinisha’s house in Netoor.
Preliminary investigations suggested that the couple had an argument when the two-wheeler reached the middle of the bridge. “Eyewitnesses had seen the woman telling something to her spouse in anger. She then handed over the toddler and jumped off the bridge to his shock,” said officers.
According to the police, the huband, Sebastian, rushed to the Panagad police station and informed the police officers of the incident. The police alerted the fire personnel and a joint search operation was launched. The officers were unable to locate the woman till late in the evening as strong undercurrents in the backwaters hampered the rescue operation.
