Prime accused arrested from Bihar

Jamshedpur police along with Bihar’s special task force (STF) on Thursday nabbed Harish Kumar Singh, one of the prime accused in the murder of politician and businessman Upendra Singh in November 2016.

The 35-year-old Harish alias Chottu Singh, a native of Bhojpur district of Bihar, who had been absconding from his house in Baradwari under Sakchi police station, since the incident, was staying in a flat under Patliputra police station area of Patna. He along with a Mango-based woman, were claiming as a Muslim couple to hide his identity.

“On a tip off we came to know that Harish had been staying in the flat as a tenant for last few months as Rehan with a woman from whom he also had a girl child. We are trying to ascertain, whether he had forged identity proof (Aadhar card etc) while taking the flat on rent. Our team raided the house early this morning and nabbed Harish who was unarmed,” said SSP East Singhbhum Anoop Birtharay.

A team led by DSP composite control room (CCR) Sudhir Kumar had been camping in Patna for the last four days. Police have also recovered three mobile and an SUV (scorpio) from his possession.

Notably, transporter Upendra Singh was gunned down by a gang of armed criminals at bar building on the civil court premises in Sitaramdera on November 30. The transporter's murder was allegedly conspired by gangster Akhilesh Singh with the help of his associates.

Singh had unsuccessfully contested the 2014 assembly polls from Jamshedpur West seat on a JMM ticket, His bodyguards  also opened fire to counter the attack. About 14 rounds of firing were exchanged from both sides. Singh is known as flourishing businessman, who ran a restaurant at Sakchi bus terminus as well as a transport unit.
