‘MPs should also quit to mount pressure on Centre’

It was only the persistent pressure for Special Category Status (SCS) exerted by Leader of the Opposition and YSR Congress Party president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy that compelled Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to pull his Ministers out of the Union Cabinet, said YSRCP MLA R.K. Roja on Thursday.

Mr. Reddy pledged all support to efforts to get SCS, and it was the last opportunity for Mr. Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu, and actor and Jana Sena founder Pawan Kalyan to keep the promise of getting SCS, she said at a press conference here.

Following the call given by Mr. Reddy, all the MPs, including Chiranjeevi, should quit to exert pressure on the Union Government, she said.

She recalled that SCS was ridiculed and students who agitated for it were jailed. She wondered what would be the justification for it by Mr. Naidu now.

Ms. Roja, who is also State president of the YSRC Women’s Wing, said the budget was a big let down for women as the ₹14,200 required for DWCRA loan waiver was not given and only ₹1,700 crore was allocated towards capital infusion for rotation.
