Chennai college girl stabbed to death by man claiming to be her husband

CHENNAI: A 25-year-old man stabbed a college girl to death in Chennai on Friday. The man claimed that the girl was his wife while her relatives denied the claim.
The deceased has been identified as Ashwini Mohan, 20, a resident of Maduravoyal. She was a second year B Com student in Meenakshi College here.

Ashwini was walking on the road near the college when Alagesan, 25, accosted her and picked up quarrel with her. In the heated argument, he pulled out a knife and stabbed on her chest and stomach.

He left her in a pool of blood and ran away. However, locals nabbed Alagesan and thrashed him before he was handed over to police.

The girl was rushed to KM Hospital in KK Nagar, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

The KK Nagar police registered a murder case and arrested Alagesan.


Preliminary investigations revealed that Ashwini’s father Mohan had died long ago and she had been brought up by her mother.


Alagesan, a native of Tiruvannamalai who works in a water can supply agency in Maduravoyal, claimed that married Ashwini on February 16 this year. However, her relatives alleged that he had barged in the house forcefully tied the mangalsutra on her.


He told police that soon after the “marriage,” there was a rift between them, and a complaint was filed at the Maduravoyal police station. The police registered it in the community service register (CSR), and they were let off after getting a statement.


Police said Alagesan intercepted her near the college on Friday afternoon to patch up with her, but it ended in her murder.
