The Pauri District magistrate Sushil Kumar admonished the Pauri Municipality officials for doing nothing in the matter of cleanliness and asked all the civic bodies and the Nagar Panchayats operating in the district to ensure that cleanliness is maintained everywhere while monitoring works done by the municipal corporation of Kotdwar, municipalities of Pauri, Srinagar and Dugadda and Nagar Panchayat of Swargashram Jok under Swachch Bharat Mission in Pauri on Thursday. He further announced that a ban on the use of thermocol and plastic products would be enforced for the area under the jurisdiction of the Garhwal commissioner from April 1 and those found using them would be made to pay penalties. Things would be checked at Dharamsalas, shops, hotels and other commercial places at the behest of the administration from April 1 and unannounced inspection would also be conducted at the godowns of wholesalers. DM appealed to the people to desist from using thermocol and plastic products.
Annoyed over garbage found strewn around in Pauri town, DM constituted a team to be led by the additional district magistrate for the supervision of the garbage disposal. He also asked the ADM to submit report on cleanliness involving the areas under jurisdictional limit of Pauri municipality and warned that stern action would be taken if anybody is found negligent of duty.
DM stressed that the waste products and the garbage must be removed in the morning and also in the evening daily by those employed by the local bodies. He also asked all concerned to maintain sanitation in the Sulabh Shauchayalayas. Besides, garbage bins should be placed in every locality under the limit of the civic body, DM said. Kumar instructed the sub-divisional magistrate Kotdwar to earmark a land from where the trenching ground would operate.
