The family of 21-year-old Delhi University student and alleged rape victim barged into the premises of Delhi Police headquarters demanding justice on Thursday, during the launch of all-women PCR vans on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
The family alleged that they had been running from pillar to post for action against their relative, who allegedly raped and blackmailed their daughter for almost three years.
“We have been made to wait for over four hours in the visitor’s room. No policeman has addressed our complaint. We were left with no option but to raise our voice in front of the media present inside the premises,” said a relative of the victim.
Soon after Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik flagged off five more all women patrol vans on International Women’s Day, the family started creating a ruckus.
They accused the police of favouring the accused by not arresting him. They further stated that the police did not recover the accused’s mobile phone, which contains the objectionable photos and videos of the victim.
Following this, they were assisted to the Police Commissioner’s office. After hearing their grievances, Mr. Patnaik assured them of swift action.
“Mr. Patnaik has promised to look into our case and that he will take all necessary action,” said the victim’s uncle.
‘Raped for 3 years’
A case of rape and criminal intimidation was registered on the woman’s complaint against her relative at Vasant Kunj north police station on January 22.
The woman in her complaint alleged that she was only 17 when her relative dragged and clicked objectionable photos inside his car.
He allegedly raped her several times in his home in Masoodpur for past three years. Following this, he threatened to upload the photos on social media. The matter came to light in 2018, after which an FIR was lodged by the victim’s parents.
“My daughter was raped her several times at his home in Masoodpur and other places between June 2014 and December 2017,” said the uncle.
The family alleged that they met the Additional DCP (South-West), joint and special commissioners, seeking the arrest of their relative but no progress was made in the case.
