The International Women’s Day was observed at the Rama Devi Women’s University campus here amid much enthusiasm on Thursday.
The programme presided over by Vice-Chancellor Padmaja Mishra was graced by noted litterateur Padma Shri Pratibha Ray, State Information Commissioner Shashiprava Bindhani, ADG of Police B Radhika, Astha Management School Principal Sharmila Subramanyam.
Ray urged upon all women to enlighten the world by burning always as lamps. “Women are not mere homemakers; rather they are makers of humans. Women should depend on their own strengths and keep up working fearlessly,” she said.
ADG Radhika opened that gender equality should begin at one’s own home. Citing an example of Nigerian poet Chimamanda, she requested women to bring positive changes in mind as no other person can do it for them.
Giving example of women exploitation, Information Commissioner Bindhani advised students to raise voice against illegalities. Similarly, Subramanyam said the social customary vis a vis women needs to be changed.
Vice-Chancellor Mishra said each day of the year is Women’s Day for women and women are performing in each sector and should keep up trying their level best to progress in life. While PG Council Chairman Seetanshu Das delivered welcome address, Dr Sarita Supakar moderated the programme.
The programme conclude with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Sneha Das. The meeting was followed by a cultural programme conducted by students of the university.
