Leader of Opposition in Chhattisgarh Assembly, TS Singhdeo on Thursday said that the Congress party is still contemplating whether to field a candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat from Chhattisgarh or not.
" Me and CGPCC Chief Bhupesh Baghel are discussing in detail about the pros and cons of the nominations", he told The Pioneer.
When asked if Congress party fields a strong candidate and unanimously gets elected with cross voting from Bharatiya Janata Party members, Singhdeo said “we don’t want a single vote from the BJP in favour of our candidate”, he said.
When asked would it not be a walkover to BJP candidate, Singhdeo replied “definitely not when we are not able to give a tough fight to them, how could it be termed as a walkover”.
In the case of single seat in which Congress candidate Mohsina Kidwai was elected as an MP, the BJP had not fielded its candidate and keeping in view the same, it could be a possibility that we too could avoid nominating any candidate, he said.
The Rajya Sabha elections are scheduled to held on March 23.
