Transport Department organises driving licence mela

A special driving licence mela was organised by the Transport Department at AU College of Engineering for Women on the occasion of International Women’s Day at Shivajipalem here on Thursday.

The test was conducted in the temporary track prepared on the college ground and licences were issued to the eligible students.

Collector Pravin Kumar and Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G. Nageswara Rao formally inaugurated the mela and later handed over the licences to the eligible girls.

The Collector said that all students should compulsorily obtain the driving licence. He said that such special melas were already conducted at 21 engineering colleges in the district. He said that Visakhapatnam district was the first in the State to organise special driving melas for students. Lauding the Transport Department, Police and Engineering Departments for their efforts in reducing the road accident deaths by 21% in 2017 compared to the previous year. He suggested that it should be reduced further.
