Barack and Michelle Obama's next major move could make them power players in the media business.

The former president and first lady are reportedly nearing a deal to produce exclusive content for Netflix, according to the New York Times. If the deal goes through, it would give them direct access to the streaming service's nearly 188 million subscribers -- a huge platform to convey their message.

The Obamas already have a massive social media reach with a combined total of more than 111 million Twitter followers and 72 million likes on Facebook, but adding Netflix's audience into the equation would essentially double their online reach.

Since the deal hasn't been closed, we don't yet know what sort of shows would be produced, but per the New York Times, they would focus on telling inspirational stories rather than acting as a direct opposition to Trump's administration.

"President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire," Eric Schultz, one of Barack's senior advisers, said. "Throughout their lives, they have lifted up stories of people whose efforts to make a difference are quietly changing the world for the better. As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories."

The Obamas have been relatively low-key since leaving the White House in 2017, but that could change very soon. Aside from the potential Netflix deal, Barack and Michelle recently signed a blockbuster $60 million deal with Random Penguin House to publish two books, to be written by Michelle and Barack respectively. They've also continued their philanthropic efforts through the Obama Foundation.
