Remanded in 14-day custody till March 22

A Delhi court on Thursday further extended the judicial remand of two AAP MLAs in connection with the the Delhi Chief Secretary assault case. Metropolitan Magistrate Shefali Barnala Tandon remanded Amantullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal for 14 days till March 22.

The court had on February 22 sent the two MLAs to judicial custody for 14 days, which ended on Thursday.

Bail pleas dismissed

The court has already dismissed their bail pleas, stating that the matter cannot be treated in “a casual and routine manner” while dubbing them “history-sheeters”.

The MLAs have since moved the Delhi High Court for bail. Mr. Jarwal’s had moved a Sessions court for bail, which also refused him relief.

“It is true that the applicant is a young politician and got recently married but it cannot be ignored that he openly violated the dignity of a 56-year-old public servant, who was honestly discharging his duties,” Additional Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna had observed while rejecting Mr. Jarwal’s bail plea.
