Prime minister Narendra Modi reiterated his commitment towards cooperative federalism at the swearing-in ceremony of the first BJP-led government in Tripura. The PM attributed the party's success in Tripura to his government's commitment to the idea.
On Friday, Biplab Kumar Deb took oath as the chief minister of the state and Jishnu Deb Burman took charge as his deputy along with seven other ministers, including IPFT chief N C Debbarma.
Addressing a packed audience, Modi said the people of the state do not belong to a party, they belong to the country and that the government in the Centre is committed to their welfare. The BJP government in the state assumed charge after ending 25-year rule of the Left Front.
Modi said Tripura's results is a verdict that will stand out and will be talked about for a long period of time. "Tripura election is one such election where new analysis will keep on emerging. This is another facet of Indian democracy. People here have scripted history," he said. “I have visited Northeast over 25 times in last four years, which is more than all prime ministers put together in last 70 years. I am happy the efforts made in last 4 years are bearing results."
Likening the poll win to Diwali, Modi said, “Light of development has come to Tripura. There is new hope and new aspiration".
Modi also sought support from the Opposition, urging them to use their experience in guiding the new government. "I hope Tripura will reach new heights.”
BJP national president Amit Shah said people have reposed their faith in BJP. “ We will fulfill the hopes and aspiration of the people and ensure Tripura develops as a model state. Earlier budget allocations was done but it never used to get converted into development."
He said budgetary allocation for the Northeast India has increased.
