Cabinet to abolish backlog of reserved doctor posts

| | Dehradun | in Dehradun

The State Government is planning to remove backlog in the recruitment of doctors so that vacant posts of medical officers (MO) in Uttarakhand are filled. In recent recruitment drive of medical officers for 712 posts, the Uttarakhand Medical Services Selection Board (UMSSB) was able to recruit only 481 doctors- the result was released on Thursday- due to non availability of the candidates of reserved categories. To add to the woes of the health department these posts cannot be filled by candidates of general category as the backlog is needed to be filled first. In such a scenario, the State Government is planning to bring a proposal to abolish backlog in recruitment of doctors before the State Cabinet.

When asked about vacant posts of doctors and non availability of candidates of reserved category at his residence on Thursday, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said a proposal to remove backlog in recruitment of doctors would be brought before the Cabinet for its approval.

Terming health as top priority of his government the CM said that the State government had taken a target to recruit 1000 doctors in its first year against which 1140 appointments have been made. He added that the state government is taking the help of Information Technology (IT) in improving the health services in the state and 12 hospitals of the state have been linked with Tele radiology while Tele medicine services have started in 24 hospitals. The CM added that the government is committed to start the facility of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in all the district hospitals.
