Mysore Grahakara Parishat to submit traffic survey report by July

more-in

The traffic survey conducted by the Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) with the help local authorities concluded on Wednesday and the final report will be submitted by July.

The surveyors assessed the peak traffic density at different points in the city at different times and covered areas such as K.R. Circle, Railway Station, Suburban Bus Stand, Visveswaraya Circle, Irwin Road, K.R. Hospital and surrounding areas, locations around D. Devaraja Market, Ramaswamy Circle, Nehru Circle among others.

“The information collected from the sample study will be consolidated and studied with the traffic data available with the police and we plan to come out with the final report by July,” R. Chandraprakash, of the MGP, said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep said ₹2 lakh – through CSR funding – will be made available to the NGO for completing the studies. “We expect them to submit a practical report with suggestions that can be implemented otherwise the efforts will be wasted,” he added.

Underlining the importance of the survey, the DC said the projected traffic growth of Mysuru for the next 25 years should be taken into consideration while conceiving a solution to traffic woes. “We cannot let Mysuru become another Bengaluru or Mumbai that chokes under high traffic density,” said Mr. Randeep, and added that a meeting of all stakeholders will be convened in due course to discuss the issue.

Mr. Chandraprakash said the objective of the study was to provide a solution that includes effective parking management for which the peak hour traffic density data from different locations of the city was a must. He said the encroachment of pedestrian pathways by vendors and the conversion of footpaths to parking lots were some of the issues to be addressed in the survey.
