The Department of Health earlier this week revealed the deadly listeria bacteria had been traced to Enterprise's Polokwane facility, which manufactures products like polony. According to the department, the food-borne outbreak has claimed 180 lives.
Tiger Brands CEO Lawrence MacDougall maintained on Tuesday that there was no direct link between the deaths of 180 people infected with the listeriosis outbreak and the products from its Enterprise subsidiary. Enterprise Foods is a division of Tiger Brands.
The disease can be treated if diagnosed early enough. If left untreated, it can lead to infections in the bloodstream and the brain.
