A day after the Roorkee Mayor Yashpal Rana was released on bail, earlier arrested and sent to jail in connection with the scuffle over parking dispute involving a BJP councillor Chandra Prakash Bata , Rana threatened to move court, seeking explanation why he had been earlier booked under sections 307 of IPC applied for murder attempt sans any medical report.
Notably, Rana was given bail on Tuesday based on the doctor’s statement and medical report involving Bata which said that nothing was found to indicate that what happened to the councillor was life threatening. It was alleged that during the scuffle, Bata had been dragged to police post of Gangnahar police station. Police had acted after the councillor’s brother Devendra Verma had registered a complaint. Subsequently, a case under sections 147/148/149/323/307 of IPC had been registered against the Mayor Rana, his son Lavi Rana, a supporter Suraj and four other unidentified persons in the Gangnahar police station.
Mayor Rana alleged that the police had booked him section 307 of IPC at the behest of the BJP MLA from Roorkee and other ruling party leaders. “It is unlawful to include that section in the FIR without medial report and preliminary investigation. It was a conspiracy to malign me. I would move court, seeking justice,” he said.
Meanwhile, a video was circulated on the social media which purportedly showed a representative of the local MLA threatening the doctor of consequences over the medical report that helped the Mayor get the bail. However, the BJP leaders rubbished the video outright. Local police when contacted said that the doctor allegedly threatened has not yet lodged any complaint with them.
